Ecstasy Death Girl

from somethingweirdgoingoninmyhead by Steve White

/

about

Isobel Jones-Reilly was 15 years old when she died in 2011 as a result of MDMA poisoning having taken ecstasy at a party. Tragic, but not necessarily newsworthy except that the party was in the home of a famous academic, a bloke called Brian Dodgeon. Even so, the story was handled by the mainstream media with a degree of sensitivity, apart from the Daily Mail of course.

The Mail spoke to friends of friends and parents of friends of friends and all kinds of poorly informed sources in order to give the story their own editorial spin. Isobel died because she was "addicted to the internet" and because she was "obsessed by celebrities", you know, the wrong sort. They used this poor girl's story to highlight their problems with a whole generation. And they couldn't even be bothered to use her name. To them she was just the Ecstasy Death Girl.

(I may have cheated including this song on somethingweirdgoingoninmyhead. While it's true that it's been around a long time with no Protest Family version ever appearing, I did hear a version that I'd really like to record, so you never know.)
